Spraying isn’t difficult. You can be successful if you follow a few key steps, say experts at Corteva Agriscience™.
The absolute simplest way to pasture weed control may be to hire a good, professional applicator to apply DuraCor herbicide in water or liquid fertilizer for you. Or, in many states, you can have DuraCor impregnated onto dry fertilizer. But if you plan to do your own liquid application, the experts offer these tips.
Early in the season means when weeds are small — less than 8 inches tall — and growing fast. They’re easy to cover and control then, and they haven’t robbed much from your grass. DuraCor controls more than 100 types of weeds in pasture with both preemergence and postemergence control. That’s more broadleaves than any other pasture herbicide.
You can know volume only if you calibrate. If you guess, you risk overspending or underapplying. Either way, you waste money. For ground broadcast, apply DuraCor in 10 to 20 gallons of water per acre. More vegetation requires more total volume for adequate coverage. Use an agricultural surfactant to help the mixture thoroughly wet the foliage. (Follow the manufacturer’s recommendation on how much surfactant to mix.)
DuraCor controls weeds that have emerged and provides soil residual activity to control new weed germinations for several weeks after application. Because of that residual activity, it is labeled for permanent grass pastures only. It should not be used on cropland or on land to be rotated to crops. Those crops may be affected if planted within two years of spraying — and may even be affected after two years. Remember, too, grasses treated with any soil residual herbicide may carry herbicide residue that can be transferred to the soil by hay, livestock manure or urine. Read and follow all label precautions.
