Tank-mix and Application Flexibility Help Meet Diverse Land-use Objectives

Invasive grass ventenata

Creating and maintaining a healthy land resource drives most management decisions. This rings especially true across the vast, diverse western United States, where managing rangeland for multiple land-use goals is an important consideration.

Whether you’re working to maximize forage production for cattle, enhance habitat for wildlife, restore or preserve native vegetation, or — as often is the case — a combination of these and more, you need tools designed to help you achieve your objectives.

“Maintaining a high level of rangeland health benefits livestock producers who depend on the forage resource,” explains Will Hatler, an Idaho-based Range & Pasture field scientist with Corteva Agriscience. “It also promotes wildlife habitat and improves recreational uses on public and privately owned lands.”

HighNoon herbicide makes managing low-value, undesirable weeds across various sites easier. Now you can simply choose a single product for broadleaf weed control, whether treating pastures, rangeland or other noncrop areas.

Flexibility Boosts Ventenata Programs

The proliferation of invasive winter annual grasses across many Western states poses an ongoing threat against varying land-use goals. Whether it’s ventenata, medusahead or cheatgrass (downy brome), dealing with these species has grown in importance among rangeland managers.

These grasses offer minimal forage value to livestock or wildlife, crowd out perennial forage grasses, and create monocultures ill-suited for grazing or habitat. Treatment programs can be effective, but most leave bareground — a void, if you will — that needs filling. And that leaves nature to do its job.

“Without a remnant population of desirable grasses poised to move in, the void most commonly gets filled with broadleaf weeds — often invasives,” Hatler says.

One-Pass Solution

That’s where a diverse toolbox can help. HighNoon herbicide brings a broadleaf weed control component to annual grass programs. HighNoon provides tank-mix flexibility with most annual grass control products. Now, in a single pass, you can take out those grasses and gain the extended control to stop broadleaf weeds intent on backfilling that space.

“HighNoon plays an important role in integrated programs designed to reclaim rangeland lost to these winter annual species,” Hatler says. “Often, these programs incorporate reseeding with competitive perennial forage grasses.” Including HighNoon helps keep broadleaf weeds at bay until the newly seeded grasses take off. And HighNoon provides the use-site flexibility that allows you to treat various areas with the same sprayer load.

Under normal field conditions, HighNoon is nonvolatile. HighNoon has no grazing or haying restrictions for any class of livestock, including lactating dairy cows, horses (including lactating mares) and meat animals prior to slaughter. Label precautions apply to forage treated with HighNoon and to manure and urine from animals that have consumed treated forage. HighNoon are not registered for sale or use in all states. Contact your state pesticide regulatory agency to determine if a product is registered for sale or use in your state. Consult the label for full details. Always read and follow label directions.
