Corteva Agriscience has announced registration of a new cereal product, Tolvera herbicide, which includes an active ingredient new to the cereal herbicides market.

“We’re excited to introduce a new chemistry to cereal growers that will bring great efficacy and crop safety, giving growers and retailers confidence to put Tolvera in the tank,” says Drew Clark, Product Manager, Corteva Agriscience.

Available for sale for the 2025 growing season, Tolvera will provide your cereal operation with five key benefits.

  1. Better resistance management. Tolvera contains two modes of action — tolpyralate (Group 27) and bromoxynil (Group 6) to help combat herbicide resistance. New to the cereals market, tolpyralate provides excellent control of a variety of weeds, including many of the common herbicide-resistant biotypes.
  2. Control of high-anxiety weeds. Tolvera herbicide offers robust broadleaf and grass weed control without reliance on ALS or auxin modes of action. This herbicide can help you control some of the most challenging weeds on your cereal operation, including kochia, foxtail, barnyardgrass, waterhemp, wild buckwheat and wild mustards.
  3. Season-long weed control. “Tolvera can be applied in four key cereal crops: spring wheat, winter wheat, durum and barley,” says Ryan Humann, field scientist, Corteva Agriscience. “Growers can apply Tolvera to a cereal crop starting at the one-leaf stage all the way up through the jointing phase — whenever it’s needed to get the most effective weed control.”
  4. More flexibility for your next crop rotation. With a nine-month plant-back to most major crops, Tolvera also gives you the freedom to rotate to the crop that provides you the most profit potential, including, but not limited to, lentils, peas, potatoes, soybeans and canola.

“When I think about Tolvera, I think about flexibility,” Clark says. “Tolvera will bring growers peace of mind, knowing that you don’t have to wait two or three years before planting the next crop in your rotation.”

The primary use rate for Tolvera herbicide is 11 ounces per acre, but it is also labeled for 14.7 ounces per acre for hard-to-kill weeds in less-than-ideal conditions.
  5. Tank-mix compatibility. You can tank-mix Tolvera herbicide with Group 1 and Group 2 herbicides for even broader weed control.

“Tolvera already provides control of both broadleaves and foxtails,” says Mark Pederson, territory manager, Corteva Agriscience. “When you mix in a Group 2 product such as Tarzec or OpenSky herbicide, or a Group 1 containing product such as Rezuvant herbicide, you’re also going to control other grass species like Italian ryegrass and wild oats. Tolvera is going to bring great weed control to small grain growers across the country. As a non-fluroxypyr herbicide, Tolvera offers a resistance management option for cereal growers,” Pederson says. “Tolvera will bring a higher level of control on some of the most challenging weeds, such as kochia, pigweeds, and lambsquarter with suppression of prickly lettuce and dogfennel.”
