Farmer in crop field

Our Commitment to Your Safety

Making sure our products are safe – for humans, animals and our planet – is our top priority

Farmers are key to creating a sustainable future — a world where everyone has access to enough healthy, safe food. Farms flourish because of innovative products and practices that are both effective and safe.

Corteva’s mission focuses on helping farmers meet the rising global demand for sustainably produced food, feed, fuel and fiber. That’s why we prioritize our products’ safety — for people, animals and the environment. In all the countries we serve, we are dedicated to meeting stringent safety standards and complying with – and at times, exceeding – the rigorous regulatory processes required for our products, including our pesticide products (fungicides, herbicides, insecticides) and seeds (both conventional and biotech). Our innovations undergo rigorous approval processes, and ongoing re-approval, by regulators all over the world, including Europe, Canada, Australia and others.

When it comes to crop protection, Corteva has a long history of providing safe and effective products that protect crops from weeds, insects and diseases. In fact, we won six Green Chemistry Challenge Awards presented by the U.S. EPA — more than any other agricultural company. The award is given to companies or institutions that develop new chemical products or processes that help to reduce or eliminate the generation of hazardous substances in the environment.

And we've made a public commitment that every newly-developed Corteva product must meet our stringent sustainability criteria, which are aligned to the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

We make these investments so we can contribute new products to the world around us, while also building the collective understanding of every product’s safety, efficacy and lifecycle management, so regulators can determine whether existing products should continue to be approved and used.

A single crop protection product takes an average of 13 years to develop, a biotech trait takes almost 16 years and a new seed product can take seven years.
