Corteva Agriscience Signs MOU with Dairy Giant Yili Group to Jointly Improve Quality of China’s Milk Sources

HOHHOT, China, Oct. 17, 2019—On Oct. 10, during the 2019 First International Eco-agriculture and Animal Husbandry Exposition — co-sponsored by the Hohhot Municipal People's Government and the Agriculture and Animal Husbandry Department of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region in Hohhot, Inner Mongolia — Corteva Agriscience reached a consensus with Yili Group on plans to increase the quality of China’s milk sources and signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to jointly enhance the core competitiveness of said milk sources and support the revitalization of the dairy industry.

The MoU was signed by Liu Dapeng, Vice President of Yili Group, and Alec Zheng, Director of Marketing & Strategic Planning for Corteva Agriscience in China, in the presence of Huang Jigang, Vice Mayor of Hohhot, Liu Yueping, Director of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry Department of Hohhot, Wang Yongli, Vice General Manager of Business Unit, Yili Group, and Peter Huang, President of Corteva Agriscience in China.

“The dairy industry is a symbol of modern agriculture and the development of high-quality feed such as silage maize plays a great role in promoting the industry’s modernization, and is significant in optimizing the structure of grain, cash and feed crops, as well as ensuring food safety,” said Alec Zheng.

“The deepening cooperation between Corteva Agriscience and Yili will more effectively integrate the advantages borne from the technology and resources of both sides, support the dairy industry’s revitalization, strengthen agriculture through science & technology, promote the application of new products and technologies and deepen industry synergy.”

According to the MoU, the two sides will focus on talent and technical cooperation, jointly promoting the high-quality development of China’s silage and dairy industry through scientific and technological innovation, help the implementation of the nation’s dairy industry revitalization strategy and elevate China’s food safety to the next level. Corteva will not only impart industry-leading knowledge to Yili professionals on advanced agricultural practices and high-quality silage cultivation; the company will also develop integrated solutions for silage variety selection, planting technology, additive usage, intelligent services and more to meet the specific needs of Yili Group.

In the field of silage cultivation, Corteva provides an entire array of strong scientific research strength and strict quality control systems, inherited from its heritage companies — DuPont Pioneer and Dow AgroSciences. DuPont Pioneer owns 60% of germplasm resources globally, accounts for 39% of North America’s corn market and provides lactobacillus for 100 million tons of silage every year. Dow AgroSciences is the initiator of high fiber digestibility varieties, making up 12% of the North America’s silage corn market. With world-leading animal nutrition teams and resources, as well as large-scale farm management and technical experience solutions, Corteva holds a large number of silage and pasture business practices and innovative resources in the United States, Europe, Japan, Australia and New Zealand.

In China, the promulgation of policies such as Supply-side Reform, Crop Structure Adjustment and Grain-to-Feed has released positive signals for the accelerated development and upgrading of the silage industry. With abundant practical experience and product portfolios, Corteva actively promotes cooperation throughout the value chain — from pastures and corn growers to feed-processing enterprises — to deliver high-quality industry development with better synergy. In February this year, Corteva organized and participated in the 2019 China Forage Conference, marking the seventh consecutive year that Corteva and its heritage companies hosted and participated in the renowned industry conference.
